Alright, you already have purchased a recording software, a nice midi-controller, a decent studio headphone, a computer a condenser mic, a guitar and a guitar interface. Your home recording is almost complete and you’re almost ready to record your first song. The only thing that’s lacking are studio monitors. If you’re like most of the sound engineers and musicians I know, I’m pretty sure that you don’t want instruments or equipment that don’t produce the best sound, in fact you hate them. There’s been a lot of arguments about what’s the best studio monitor and blah blah blah but the truth is that, it really depends on application and personal preference. This means that what’s best for your bestfriend may not really be the best for you and what you need them for. So what you really want to look for are quality studio monitors. I hate to say it but the ones with high quality are usually expensive.

Setting up a home studio can really take a lot of money out of your pocket so you need to know where to find cheap studio monitors. Well, obviously, you can just go to a local music shop and check out what they have to offer but it’s easier to check out online music stores so you’ll have an idea how much studio monitor speakers cost. We all have our own unique definition of the word cheap so just check out online catalogs and see what’s cheap for you. Just in case you wanted to know what I consider cheap when it comes to studio speakers, you don’t need to send me a private message, I’ll answer it right now. For speakers, a set at $100 is cheap for me because studio equipment can get really very expensive especially if you want the best ones. I guess it’s just one of those things that we have to live with.

By the way, you have to know that there are two types of studio monitor speakers. Passive studio monitors or the ones that requires you to buy a separate power amp and active studio studio monitors. What you’ll want is an active studio monitor if you’re looking to save money because you will no longer have to buy a power amp.

Another thing to look for when looking for the best studio monitor for you is its driver size. What you’ll want to get is something that do have a wide frequency range. If you ask sound engineers a recommendation, most of the time they will tell you to get an eight inch monitor because it really gives superior bass sound and sufficient low frequencies which will allow you to put together a very good mix. I want to inform you though that 8 inch monitors may be a bit expensive than the smaller ones. So if you’re just a hobbyist and you’re not really recording professionally then you might just want to settle with a 5 inch monitor.
