If you've read my hub on How to kill black mold in your house, you should know by now that it is strongly recommended that you hire someone or a company to do the mold and mildew removal process especially if the mold problem in your house is already severe. You may need to pay for the service but the mold abatement cost is way less than the amount that you'll have to spend if someone in your family gets any mold-related disease. These molds can also cause major damage in your house (meaning more money out of your pocket for the repairs) if you don't prevent them from growing. So if you start to notice molds in your sidewalls, wallpapers, carpets, ceiling tiles, crawl places and etc you better act fast to prevent them from growing very rapidly. You may want to look for mold removal companies in your area that can do the job if you think you can't handle cleaning the molds up yourself.

How much does mold abatement cost?

If you're hiring a mold removal company, normally, mold removal cost can cost you between $500 - $4,000. It can cost you around $6,000 if there are more areas impacted by mold like crawl spaces, shower wall, basement wall and others. If you think that's pretty expensive, you'll be shocked to know that If there is any damage to the structure or furniture, cost of mold remediation can skyrocket to $10, 000 to $30, 000. Now the question that you might have in mind is "why on earth is mold removal so darn expensive?", well here are some of the reasons why they are expensive.

  • training to become certified is costly and takes a lot of time
  • certified mold remediation companies are very few
  • specialized equipment the companies have to use are expensive
  • mold remediation is a very dangerous job

Mold remediation cost depends on what kind of removal treatment will be used. Mold removal may not cost you that much if the affected areas in your house isn't that big. If the molds that you're trying to get rid of are the ones that you see on tiles, sinks, showers, steel surfaces, taps and glass, there's no need to get the service of professional mold removal companies as you can remove the molds yourself using mold and mildew removal products that are available in your own home. The products that i'm referring to are vinegar, tee tree treasure and grapefruit seed extract. However you need to make sure that they're completely gone, check the other parts of your house as well that may have mold like your basement, sidings and bathroom.

Now that you know that mold remediation costs can get pretty expensive, here are some of the things that you can do to prevent them from growing especially in your home.

  • Clean up spills right away
  • 25 minutes after you shower, allow the exhaust fan to run. This absorbs any excess water in the bathroom.
  • Use a dehumidifier especially in your basement to prevent mold from growing.
  • Preven Water Leaks / Water Intrusion - check if there's any leaking pipes and make sure to check if there's a roof leak as well. You can do it by looking for water stain on the inside ceiling, look for any visible damage such as tears, cracks and split.

The best way for you to get an estimated mold abatement cost is to go online and look for mold control companies near you place. Don't forget to website hop so you can compare the prices from  different companies. It's not a bad idea to check for reviews first online. It's even better if you can call some friends who might know some companies that do not have ridiculous rates.

Black Mold is a serious issue. And cleaning it is no easy task. It can also put our health at risk. So getting it done by mold expert costing some money is worth one.
