Have you been visiting the restroom lately because of diarrhea that you're about to run out of tissue paper? Have you been vomiting for a couple of days now that you're starting to get worried about what's causing it? If you've just answered yes to any of these questions. You probably have an stomach flu (Viral Gastroenteritis), which is actually not a flu, like many people tend to think. You'll know why later on this hub, before we even go to that part, I'd like you to know that if you have headache, chills, fever or abdominal pain then it should give you more reasons or evidence to think that you really are suffering from Viral Gastroenteritis. Don't worry, in this hub you'll learn some basic information about your condition (where in the world did you get it from?!), such as it's causes and the most practical stomach flu remedies .
Where did you get it from?
Stomach flu is caused by several virus that damages the cells in the lining of your small intestine. When this happens, fluids start to leak from the cells into your intestine which produces watery diarrhea (this explains your recent trips to the bathroom). The four types of virus that causes stomach flu are:
- Rotavirus - Common cause of diarrhea in children who are below 5 years old. This is also the leading cause among children three to fifteen months.
- Adenovirus - Usually occurs in children under 2 years old.
- Caliciviruses - This virus causes infection in people of all ages.
- Astrovirus- The most active virus during the winter months and mainly infects infants and elders.
Before you even look for home remedies for stomach flu, you need to know that your condition is highly contagious, so please do not share your drink, food or eating utensils to your family members if you don't want any competition in using the bathroom. It's also possible that an individual becomes infected without having any symptoms at all, and still unknowingly spread the infection. Before I forget, the reason "stomach flu" (Viral Gastroenteritis) is not really a "flu", is because it's not caused by the influenza virus, which causes the real flu.
