Some Bible scholars believe that it's not okay at all for a Christ follower to be in debt no matter how small the amount owed is, while others believe it's alright as long as he or she knows how to manage and pay it. Whatever side your on, I think it's safe to say that that nobody in general (especially Christians) wants to get in debt. It doesn't matter if you're Christian, Buddhist or a Muslim, everybody wants to be debt free. One way to get out of debt if you're a Christian is by getting yourself into a Christian debt program.

A Christian debt program is usually designed and runned by Bible- believing non profit organizations to help you get out of debt as quick as possible. They will combine your unsecured monthly bills (Unsecured debts are credit card bills, medical bills, personal loans and etc, as long as the lender lets your borrow the money without any collateral) to one affordable montly payment, that way you won't have to borrow any more money to pay for your debts.

How does a Christian Debt Program work?

Normally, a Christian debt consolidation program works by you applying for it and then when you get approved, a Christian debt advisor will talk to you to assess your current debt situation. You will then have to give him the authority to contact your lenders or creditors. Your advisor will negotiate with your creditors (Master, Visa and Amex included) to get your montly payments and interest rates reduced to an amount that you can afford every month.

When everything is processed and bills have been consolidated, you will just need to pay a single montly bill through the Christian debt program and they will be the one to wire it to the creditors making it easy for you to plan your budget. You will also receive a statement so you can track your progress in paying off your bills each month.

Is there a fee for this Christian debt consolidation program?

I guess the next question in mind would be, " Is there a fee that I need to pay when taking on this Christian debt relief ? " Usually, Christian non profit organizations who do this to help fellow Christians don't charge the lenders at all. However, there are companies or organizations who charge a percentage of the amount that you get to save. For example, you have an existing balance of $1000 dollars, and they were able to negotiate with your creditor to bring it down to $700, if your agreement with them for example is 10 percent, then you will still have to pay for $730 overall.

Why not go for the regular loan instead?

Simple , the thing about loans is that they still charge you interest rates and other fees, so instead of you getting out of debt, it tends to keep you in debt, which is not your primary goal at all when you're wanting consolidate your bills. Even if they tell you that the interest rate is just 1.2 or 1.6 per month, it still costs you over time.

The bad thing is if you miss a payment once on a loan, they would usually charge your for late payments and other stuff that you didn't know existed until you were late in your payment. Did you know that your interest rate could go up to more than 30% per annum if you miss your monthly payments? I know, because I used to work for a top international bank. One miss can make your life miserable.

Where and how to apply?

There are hundreds, if not thousands of companies and Non profit Organizations that offer Christian Debt Programs online, so finding one should be a walk in the park for you. Just make sure that you find the best deal. Don't forget to read reviews to check an entity's track record. Normally you just need to fill out an online application and a Christian debt advisor will get in touch with you to discuss the details about the program.
